In the comic I'm working on I used Andre the Giant as a model for the version of Satan that appears in the story. It occurred to me that today is Andre's birthday so I rushed out these few panels from the page I'm currently working on as a card for him. Incidentally I also turned 25 today.

Seems a bit pointless talking about this a week after the fact especially since it's been raining here for the last 5 days straight and all these have surly been washed away by now, but whatever.

I took part in a promotional stunt a week ago for the first issue of a re-branded local weekly paper "The Grid"(formally "Eye") The idea was that me and 50 other artist took a ton of chalk and made murals on the side walk around the Grid's newpaper boxes in the down town area. I mostly drew cute Tezuka inspired cartoons from my sketchbook.

Here are some other examples from the stunt. I'd like to thank Rethink, the ad agency who came up with the concept and put the whole stunt together. They were really cool and took real good care of all the artist. Also I'd like to thank Adrianna who acted as my "assistant" for that evening, she's the one who took all the pictures.

I'm almost done with this sketchbook. all these drawing I rough out super fast on the spot while riding the TTC then worry about salvaging something decent from them later, the catch being I try and color/ink them as fast as it took me to do the ballpoint pen thumbnail. In all I probably spend about 5 minutes on each sketch.

I have a little black book that fits in my back pocket. I draw pictures of of the other people when I'm riding the bus and subway to keep from getting bored.
I usually draw these out super rough with a ballpoint pen on the spot and go over the doodles later with water colour and ink.

I drink a ton of coffee (2 or 3 pots a day)-I also hate Starbucks("No. I said I want an extra large. What the fuck is a venti?!" ) More of a Tim Hortons man really.
But last night I found this chart chronicling the evolution of the Starbucks logo, And upon seeing the circa 1987 version logo my mind at once pictured this. Apparently I wasn't the only one to make this comparison as a few years later they discretely cropped the mermaids bottom half out.
Anyway I knocked this thing out in about an hour because I'm immature and Apparently I don't have anything better to do at 5:00AM on a Tuesday morning( To much coffee keeps me up at night).
For all I know this may very well already be a long since played out joke but there you have it.

My Aunt Lyn came up from Mexico for Christmas this year. Her husband Edward died over the summer so I made this picture of her with my late uncle as her gift.

My good friend Dani Crosby and I exchanged gifts this year. I made her this picture of Spock that kinda sorta looks like a cross between Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto, and Dani got me a book of true crimes stories with this beautiful illustration on the inside cover.

Greg Capullo- The artist I spent the most time trying to be like growing up. As embarrassing as it is to admit that I ever liked Spawn(In my defense it was the mid 90's and I was 10) Im not ashamed to say that I grew up wanting to draw like Greg Capullo. He belongs to that over the top, overly detailed school of comic artist that was popular in the 90's along with guys like Rob Liefeld, and Todd McFarlane, However Capullo's work still holds up for me, Mainly because unlike Liefeld and McFarlane Capullo actually knows how to draw characters with proper human proportions

William Burroughs- My favorite author. He shot his wife in the head and got away with it, Fucked Allen Ginsberg in the ass, and climbed up from the depths of heroine addiction to the heights of literary superstardom- How could you not love the crazy old faggot? The older I get the less his work seems like vulgar parody and more like clairvoyant prophecy.

Ashley Wood- I really wish I had the balls to string together a series of my scribblings and sell it as a comic book

The Simpsons- I watched as many as 6 episodes of this show a day for over 10 years.

Trainspotting- Any movie that starts with a montage set to Lust for Life is already one of the coolest movies ever in my book. But more then that it's just about the only anti-drug movie that doesn't preach down at you. More and more I see myself in this movie as well as the psychotic losers I grew up with. Probably had more to do with me staying away from hard drugs then any other factor

Stanley Kubrick- My favorite director

Toshiro Mifune- The greatest leading man to ever come out of Japan. Clint Eastwood owes his entire career to Mifune (watch Yojimbo and Fist Full of Dollars side by side and see what I mean)

Kurt Cobain- My boyhood idle, I still remember the very moment I fell in love with music. It was the first day of middle school and I nervously flipped through the TV to pass the time before I had to head out-when suddenly they played the video for Heart-Shaped Box and all I remember thinking was “Holy shit this is cool.”

Robert Crumb- I stopped reading comics when I turned 12 and realized superheros were fucking lame. But then when I was 13 I discovered R Crumb. Weird, perverted, rambling strips laced with drugs, self-loathing and a big dose of released Catholic repression. Crumb took everything that was always creepy, strange and unwholesome about the american cartoon character and brought it up to the surface and spat it back at your face. Why does Pete always try and kidnap Mini from underneath Micky? Because he wants to rape the bitch! And is Anglefood Mcspade any worse then shit like Amos 'n' Andy?(well maybe it is just as bad but at least Crumb is trying to be ironic)

Paul Pope- Ink is sexy. Computers and Markers are Ink's ugly little cousins. No one wants to fuck a marker, Sure Computers are cute but you know they've already given it up to every loser on your block who's thrown enough money at them. Everyone wants to fuck ink but she only goes with those who really know how to work it. No other artist today understands that better then Paul Pope

I like to go running down on the path by the river behind my house at night (it's to hot to run during the day). When I tell people this they always ask if I ever get scared running around in the dark in the middle of the night. I say no as I tend to sing along with the loud violent punk music on my IPod which always manages to embolden me to press on without hesitation. However a few weeks back I really scared the shit out of a couple who were trying to have sex on a park bench when I came running up screaming a G.G Allin song at the top of my lungs. Anyway I thought it was pretty funny.
